Classes at Wing Chun DC are conducted in a relaxed environment where students are encouraged to learn the art conceptually as well as physically. We heavily emphasize the use of Wing Chun's unique structure in our training, and avoid 'techniques'. We train with pressure so that our students can react effectively and under pressure. The art is based on principles that should adapt according to the situation, so we never rely on preset notions of what will work. We believe in testing skill and spend a considerable amount of time playing 'Chi Sao', or 'sticky hands' - an exercise completely unique to Wing Chun that enables students to develop structure, coordination and reflex to a very high level without getting hurt. Good Chi Sao is akin to practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or wrestling -- it is physically demanding and often frustrating, but is ultimately the key to developing genuine skill and ability.
We strive to create a collaborative place to train where skills are developed through live play so classes are always a lot of fun!
Class times are as follows:
Monday: 7pm - 8.30pm
Wednesday: 7pm - 8.30pm
Please bring sneakers, sweat pants/shorts and a t-shirt to train and arrive at least 5 minutes before class begins. No cell phones can be on during training, so remember to turn it off when you come into class.
