About Ben Cohen
"Ben was already an accomplished boxing instructor before he came to me. Because of his "no nonsense" approach to training, his Wing Chun skill has advanced quickly. Ben's passion for training and teaching shines through and anyone who is fortunate to train with him will find my sentiments to be true."
- Jin Young
Ben Cohen has trained extensively with Jin Young in the art of Wing Chun, both in Los Angeles and around the world on seminars. There are few people with a grounding in Jin's highly specialized understanding of Wing Chun, and Ben is the only person on the East Coast authorized to share Jin's concepts and training methods.
Ben is an experienced Martial Artist specializing in Wing Chun, Boxing, Kick Boxing and Krav Maga. He is a certified Krav Maga instructor and was the 2004 U.K Collegiate Kick Boxing champion. He has trained extensively in Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wing Chun, and Thai Kick Boxing. Ben has trained numerous celebrities, professionals and martial artists teaching them how to effectively defend themselves.
Ben also works as a fight consultant for television, video games and movies.
Here is what some of his students have to say:
"I've trained in a number of different martial arts, including boxing, muay thai, and other forms of wing chun, but Ben's blended approach and focus on structure has been a whole new level of practice for me. I've never really understood or believed in the application of internal power for practical use but, after one session of chi sao with Ben (and being thrown into a wall a few times), I had to concede that there was something real there.
One thing I've always appreciated is that Ben is very clear where Wing Chun does and doesn't work. He teaches boxing, wrestling, and some MMA, but always in the context of where Wing Chun fits in.
Full disclosure, this is not for everyone; it's not a quick fix, it's not a cardio workout, and it's not showy. This is a long process of understanding internal structure, physics, and how to exert your body in a different way than you're used to. If you're interested in gaining a new understanding of your own body and how to weaponise your posture (yes, posture can be a weapon), give it a try. Or, if you think this isn't real and doesn't work, come and try it anyway. The only way to know is try it out and we're always ready to welcome people with an open or curious appetite." - Luke Sharples
"Ben is a very knowledgeable about the culture of Wing Chun and how to cut through much of the superfluous dynamics. Having been involved in various schools of Wing Chun before the style felt different, but he truly understands a clear essence to the art. Ben's focus is more on one's relationship with self, and internal structure rather than memorizing techniques. It's a personal journey, that reflects the martial art." - Tony Wee
"I have briefly trained in Western boxing and wrestling. I can honestly say this style of fighting is unique and Ben's application of Wing Chun in street situations for self defense easily provides some of the most useful methods of space awareness and body leveraging in DC training.
In a world where every style wants to claim superiority, Ben is skilled enough to teach Wing Chun's useful applications without exaggerating the utility of his teachings and always welcomes collaboration on how to improve in hopes of ensuring safety for all his students.
I highly recommend you take this class, even if you have no experience in martial arts."
- Joe Meyers, DC
"Not only is Ben extremely personable, but a very skilled Martial Artist. He is dedicated to his clients and knows exactly how to get the best out of you."
- Emma Stone, Actress ('Spider Man', 'The Help', 'Super Bad')
"I've been training with Ben for about 6 months now. He has changed my life in that I am much more confident with my body as well as my mind. I have played sports all of my life and a great teacher, trainer, coach whatever the title is, is very hard to find. Ben gives the perfect mix of confidence and discipline. I would say he is the definition of the modern Renaissance man. Brains, brawn, artistic talent as well as a high intellect. He's great to be around." - Richard Kantor
"Ben really knows his stuff and makes self-defense interesting and exciting to learn. I highly recommend him."
- Sean Perry, Senior Partner, William Morris Endeavor Agency
“Ben has a unique style of training and enthusiasm that I have never witnessed from any other trainer. He took the time to get to know my body’s limits and capabilities so that he could more effectively help me reach my fitness goals quickly and injury free. I was sick of running on a treadmill in a gym, and training with Ben is the more than perfect alternative.” -
