What is Internal Wing Chun?

A Unique Approach To An Ancient Art 

Welcome to Internal Wing Chun! We offer a unique approach to the beautiful and intricate art of Wing Chun Kung Fu in the heart of the the DC Metro Area. We focus on the internal aspects of Kung Fu training the development of sensitivity and awareness to overcome bigger, stronger opponents. The system is based on the fighting principles of Wing Chun blended with internal training methods from Taiji. We do not accumulate techniques or practice a "style" of Wing Chun -- our method is trained conceptually, and we focus exclusively on principles that allow the practitioner to develop their own unique, adaptive skill set over time. There are only a handful of schools in the world where you can find this type of training. 

Pressure, Pressure, Pressure

We believe that at its core, Wing Chun is an art based on a sophisticated understanding of pressure, and how to handle it. Movement and response is dictated by our opponent, not ourselves, and we teach our students to develop "listening" skills through subtle sensitivity training. 

Our method of Wing Chun is not a fitness fad or an exercise class -- it is an ancient art that requires discipline and open mindedness to learn properly. Results come with time, and those who train diligently develop a radically different understanding of Martial Arts that can be used for not only effective self defense, but peace of mind and a new state of awareness.

High level instruction

Ben Cohen has trained extensively under Sifu Jin Young, is a qualified Krav Maga instructor and a former Kick Boxing champion. Ben has spent almost 30 years practicing various forms of Martial Arts including Tae Kwon Do, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and boxing. He now dedicates most of his time to the sophisticated art of Wing Chun.

A safe, fun and supportive environment

Training is safe and more importantly fun. While we train diligently, a sense of humor is needed to train with us - no egos allowed!

Clean, spacious training facilities

MAD Fitness is a wonderful studio in the heart of Takoma Park. We have bathrooms, clean floors, and lovely high ceilings! Oh, and great parking :)
